Are daffodils poisonous to dogs and cats?

All parts are poisonous, and the bulbs are the worst. Even the vase water can be harmful.

Has your pet eaten some?

Call your vet or the Animal PoisonLine straight away, even if your pet seems fine. Many poisons don't cause signs for hours, and treatment works best early. Keep the packet or a photo of what they ate. Don't try to make them sick unless a vet tells you to.

Why it's a problem

Daffodils contain chemicals that cause sickness, and in larger amounts can affect the heart. Dogs most often dig up and chew the bulbs. Cats can be poisoned by the flowers or vase water.

Signs to look out for

  • Being sick
  • Drooling
  • Diarrhoea
  • Wobbliness
  • Fits in severe cases
